With growing congestion pressures on NTL’s major depots, improvements to cleaning, servicing, and maintenance facilities to complete A-exams at Barrow at Barrow were identified and reviewed in a Feasibility Study in June 2020.

This Enhanced Fuelling Road (fuelling, CET, tanking) design and build is driven by the need to lengthen the rolling stock that use Barrow Carriage Sidings servicing facilities to 6 car operations from the December 22 Timetable.

Barrow Depot aim to improve the following depot train maintenance facilities:

  • New maintenance shed.

  • Permanent carriage wash

  • 6-car refuelling system

This is a Depot Facility Owner sponsored change under Part B and Part C of the National Depot Access Conditions, which is concerned with the installation of a new Service Road apron and walkways with facilities to dispense diesel fuel, AdBlue tanking water, potable water and much more.

The remit for this project includes:

  • Producing the System Definition documentation as required

  • Arranging applications for the agreement of CSM-REA Significance categorisation in accordance with Network Rail standards and the CSM-REA Regulations.

  • Facilitating HAZID and HAZOP workshops and ensuring all reasonably foreseeable hazards are collated and recorded by the project team

  • Acting as the single point of contact for the project with NRAP and other approving entities
